Photos from June Art Walk

We had so many wonderful people visit us during ArtWalk on Saturday! We did some coloring, shared some art and some wine, enjoyed the food of 2 Jive Turkeys, and signed a banner for the neighborhood, donated by Doubletime Digital. The next morning we hung the banner outside on the street. We added some paintings onto the fence as well, with tags saying: "Free. Take it, enjoy it. Art is for Everyone!" Come by with a Sharpie and sign it, or take a painting. It's on the fence on SE 9th Street, two blocks west of Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale....

Take Home a Painting

Take Home a Painting

In keeping with our motto "Art is for Everybody," we have a wall in the studio where we offer paintings for sale or free. You can pay whatever you like (a lot, little, or nothing), put it in the locked box, and take a painting home to enjoy. Payments are anonymous -- we empty the box only periodically and will never know how much was paid for a specific painting. That wall is getting crowded, so we're moving paintings outside for the community to enjoy, even if they don't enter our studio. If anyone likes it, they are free to...

Art is for Everybody! The thinking behind our “pay what you choose” events.

The thing we love about the exploding popularity of “painting parties” is that people are taking art over. Everyone can be an artist now. And why not?? Art is a universal human activity and need. Art belongs to all of us! Art shouldn’t be the exclusive property of fancy galleries and the few who can afford high prices. You don’t have to be a rare and special genius to make it. Those are lies told by those who want to keep it expensive and get rich off it. It’s scummy marketing for investors chasing maximum profits. So why do we...

What is Meditation Painting?

What is Meditation Painting?

Meditation painting is about process more than result. We focus on what happens for us as we create them, rather than the appearance of the final product (though these paintings do look pretty cool!) Our process for these paintings is making many small, repetitive gestures on a plain field of color. These sessions are intended to be calming, relaxing, and grounding in physicality, in the body, while the mind calms down and becomes focused and centered. We hold them on Sunday mornings, a good time to reflect upon a week that’s wrapping up, and to ready ourselves to face the...

Everyone is inherently creative

creativity philosophy

Everyone is inherently creative

The creative drive is part of being human. We may believe that creativity is expressed only through the formal arts, but that's just a tiny part of it. We are creative in infinite ways, through all our activities. We love to do things, to make things, to be involved in the evolution of things. Whether it's cooking, teaching words to a child, fixing a motorcycle, performing a job, choosing what to wear, or planting a garden, creativity infuses our entire existence. However, many of us are taught that creativity requires special talent possessed only by certain individuals. We are made...
